A number of 7group projects attained LEED certification during the third quarter of 2010.

In July 2010, West Chester University’s new 90,000 sf School of Music and Performing Arts Center (SOMPAC) located in West Chester, PA, achieved LEED Silver (NCv2). The project was designed and constructed as a larger and more sustainable performance center to replace the 1950s era Swope Hall, which lacked space and adequate acoustics. SOMPAC serves as a musical, theatrical and dance facility for West Chester University students, as well as the local and regional communities, and is gaining recognition as a major public performance venue for West Chester and the surrounding area. More information is available at http://www.wcupa.edu/cvpa/cvpa_facility.html and http://www.mgapartners.com/pdf/music.pdf.

Leg Up Farm in York County, PA, is a nonprofit therapy center for children with disabilities and developmental delays, dedicated to improving the life of these children and their families. Initial energy models for this new 16,500 sf LEED Silver (NCv2) building estimate an overall 44% energy savings. Based on the first 6 months of actual energy performance, the facility is projected to consume about one-half the energy of a typical building. Further information can be found at www.legupfarm.org.

The new 128,400 sf New Castle County Public Safety Building located in Wilmington, DE, earned LEED Silver (NCv2) in August 2010, and will house the New Castle County Police, 911 Communications Center, Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Management Office. Sustainability measures incorporated are expected to produce a 33% energy savings for the County.

The new facility for the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials and Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators, located in Harrisburg, PA, is now LEED Silver (NCv2) certified. This 13,000 sf office building was nearly completely renovated after purchase, and will provide office space for both of these organizations.

Renovations and a new addition were part of an update to the original 1962 Selinsgrove Elementary School facility in Selinsgrove, PA. This 89,700 sf school serves approximately 3,700 students in the Selinsgrove Area School District and was awarded LEED Gold (NCv2) in September 2010. Designed by EI Associates, the project also was the overall winner of the 2010 Green Building Awards presented by the Green Building Association of Central PA. The Haverford School, a nonsectarian preparatory school for boys in junior kindergarten through grade 12, achieved LEED Gold (NCv2) certification for its Upper School Academic Complex in September 2010. Located in Haverford, PA, this school is the first facility in Lower Merion to be granted LEED certification. More information about the school can be found at www.haverford.org.
