For the third year in a row 7group has teamed with EI Associates on the Green Building Association of Central PA’s Overall Green Building Design award winner. The Arthur W. Ferguson Elementary School (School District of the City of York, York, PA) won the award for a project of over $5 million. The project also captured the winning entry in the sustainable sites and innovation in design categories.
The Green Building Design Awards (http://gbacpa.org) ceremony was held on April 21, 2011 at the Wildwood Conference Center at Harrisburg Area Community College.
The project is currently seeking LEED Platinum status under the LEED for Schools rating system. It features a green roof, a zero waste kitchen, copious daylighting, 48% water use reduction and 47% less energy use than a code compliant building. 7group also designed an analemmatic sundial as part of the effort to augment the school’s curriculum to use the building as a teaching tool.
The 90,250 sf elementary school was constructed below budget and occupied last September. The project secured a $500,000 Energy Harvest grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to support its energy efficiency features. 7group is currently tracking building performance to ensure that the energy and water savings materialize during operations. Our participation was funded, in part, from a grant provided by the York County Community Foundation Energy Program.
