During the first quarter of 2010, nine of 7group’s projects achieved certification under the USGBC’s suite of LEED rating systems.
One of these projects, the Friends Center located in Philadelphia, PA, was certified Platinum under LEED-NC v2. This renovated 56,000 sf, 3-story office building was funded by a grant from the Kresge Foundation to reflect Quaker principles through green design strategies. 7group collaborated with L. Robert Kimball and Associates on the Select Medical Health Education Pavilion at Harrisburg Area Community College, Harrisburg, PA, which earned LEED-NC v2 Gold certification.
Golden Belt, a 155,000 sf, six-building, seven-acre historic mixed use campus developed by Scientific Properties and situated in Durham, NC, has also achieved LEED-NC v2 Gold certification. This multi-functional space was constructed on a brownfield site, and includes live/work loft apartments, art studios, shops, offices and restaurant space. Also recently certified LEED-NC v2 Gold are the District Administrative Office facilities for the School District of the City of York, PA. Done in cooperation with EI Associates and the York County Community Foundation Energy Program, the project is a great example of the adaptive reuse of a former industrial facility in an urban context.
The Hampton Bays Union Free School District partnered with 7group to realize the sustainable design for the Hampton Bays Middle School, Hampton Bays, NY, which has been awarded LEED-NC v2 Silver certification. 7group provided Commissioning services as well as LEED consulting and LEED documentation assistance.
Reynolds Consulting Engineers engaged 7group to work on the Tom Ridge Environmental Center at Presque Isle located in Erie, PA, which received LEED-NC v2 Silver certification. Wallace Roberts & Todd served as the project architects.
7group teamed with Church & Dwight Co., Inc., to attain LEED-NC v2 Silver certification for Project Independence in York, PA. The project’s design resulted in an energy cost savings of 30% using techniques such as improved thermal envelope, high efficiency glazing, reduced lighting power density, and waste heat recovery.
Designstream Architectural Studio’s 365,000 sf Consol Energy Corporate Headquarters situated in Canonsburg, PA, now LEED-NC v2 Certified, features a 10,000 sf central atrium to maximize natural daylighting and a 12-inch deep vegetated roof.
Milton Hershey School’s Springboard Academy, Hershey, PA, done in association with Gilbert Architects, is now LEED-NC v2 Certified.
Including these projects, 7group has collaborated on 53 forward-thinking projects that have achieved LEED certification, and is excited to continue partnering with innovative teams developing leading sustainable designs.
