During the fourth quarter of 2011, the Institute for Human Services and Civility at Edinboro University was awarded LEED Gold certification and CityLife’s Isozaki Tower in Milan, Italy was precertified Gold under LEED CS 2009.
Centrally located between Edinboro’s original campus and the newer campus expansion, the Institute for Human Services and Civility will serve not only as an educational facility for the Department of Social Work, but also provide support to the community through collaborative teaching, service and research initiatives. The new 24,500 sf facility will house classrooms, seminar rooms and a tiered lecture hall, as well as the Department of Speech and Hearing Diagnostic Education. The project team surpassed their goal of LEED Silver certification through the collaborative efforts of 7group and Strollo Architects earning LEED Gold (NCv2.2) certification. A geothermal ground-source system provides year-round heating and cooling, and under floor air distribution systems improves indoor air quality. Daylighting analysis provided by 7group and energy efficient lighting controls reduce the facility’s overall annual energy usage.
Construction has begun on the CityLife redevelopment project located in the historic trade fair area of Milan, Italy. With three towers and a large public park, CityLife pledges to be a zero emissions site planned for maximum energy efficiency. 7group has been consulting on one of these towers designed by prominent international architect, Arata Isozaki , in collaboration with Andrea Maffei Associates. The Isozaki Tower is planned to be the tallest building in Italy at a little over 200 meters with 50 floors of office and retail space. Based on initial design, the project has been pre-certified LEED Gold (CS 2009). For more information on the CityLife project and the Isozaki Tower, please visit http://www.city-life.it/en/hi-res/.
With the achievements earned by the two projects above, our portfolio currently includes 79 LEED certified and precertified projects, and 7group is excited to continue partnering with such innovative project teams developing cutting-edge sustainable designs.
