Other Sustainable Materials Expertise
Ground granulated blast furnace slag, better known as slag, is one of the supplementary cementitious materials eligible for use in the C3 Program.Our affiliate company, West Main Consultants, LLC, is particularly involved in the concrete field. They are currently administering the second phase of the Cool Climate Concrete® (C3) Program, an innovative greenhouse gas offset program focusing on replacing portland cement with supplementary cementitious materials in concrete for construction and civil works projects in order to lower the carbon footprint of participants’ concrete manufacturing. Both the first and second phase of the program have been made possible by funding from The Climate Trust, an Oregon nonprofit.
West Main collaborates on a wide range of sustainability issues. As a recent example, the Sustainable Concrete Plant Guidelines were prepared for the Ready Mixed Concrete Research and Education Foundation. The guidelines provide quantitative, performance-based metrics and a prioritized point system that will allow ready mixed concrete producers to demonstrate excellence and quantifiable progress in sustainable development. Because of their involvement in C3 and other projects, West Main is a leader in the sustainable concrete field.
